We are excited to offer physiotherapist-led Mat and Reformer Pilates classes in our Studio located at 7 Windsor Street (next door to our main clinic).

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a form of low impact exercise on a Pilates mat on the floor and can involve small pieces of equipment such as resistance bands and Pilates toning balls. Mat Pilates focuses on building core strength, improving flexibility, and developing better posture by learning the fundamental principles of traditional Pilates and is often combined with practicing modern functional movement patterns for injury prevention purposes. Our classes are led by Pilates trained physiotherapists.

Here are some benefits of practicing Mat Pilates:

  • Improved core strength: An excellent way to strengthen the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, and pelvis. A strong core not only improves posture but also helps with balance and stability.
  • Increased flexibility: Exercises involve stretching and lengthening the muscles to improve flexibility and range of motion.
  • Better posture: Mat Pilates emphasizes proper alignment and movement patterns which can lead to improved posture and reduced pain in the neck, shoulders, and lower back.
  • Low-impact: Mat Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise which is gentle on the joints and can be practiced by people of all fitness levels.
  • Improved mind-body connection: A focus on breathing and mindful movement, which can help improve the mind-body connection and reduce stress.
  • Reduced risk of injury: By improving core strength, flexibility and posture, your risk of injury can be reduced.

  • Increased core strength: Exercises target the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, and pelvis, which can help to improve core strength and stability.
  • Improved balance and coordination: Exercises challenge balance and coordination, which can help improve these skills and reduce the risk of falls.
